A practical 6-day Egypt itinerary, day by day
A classic 6-day Egypt itinerary works best when it avoids trying to do everything. A strong route is Cairo and Giza first, then Upper Egypt for Luxor, with Aswan or Abu Simbel only if your flight times and energy allow it.
Day 1: Arrive in Cairo and keep the plan light. A short evening walk, dinner with Nile views, or a calm hotel check-in is better than forcing a major museum visit after a long flight.
Day 2: Visit Giza for the Pyramids and Sphinx, then add Saqqara or Dahshur if you want a deeper view of pyramid development. Travellers who want this part handled privately can use Ozes’ two-day Cairo introduction as a compact start to the trip.
Day 3: Spend the day on Cairo’s city sights: the Egyptian Museum or Grand Egyptian Museum area depending on your plan, Islamic Cairo, Coptic Cairo, or a market stop. Leave for Luxor by evening flight or overnight train if it fits your comfort level.
Day 4: Tour Luxor’s West Bank, including the Valley of the Kings and nearby temples. This is one of the densest archaeology days in Egypt, so do not overload it with too many extras.
Day 5: Visit Karnak and Luxor Temple, then choose either more time in Luxor or a move south toward Aswan. If you want a smoother pace, stay in Luxor and enjoy the riverfront at sunset.
Day 6: Fly or travel back to Cairo for departure, or finish in Aswan if your international flights allow an open-jaw route. The best six-day trips usually protect this final day from risky, overpacked transfers.
